The Obs Arts Festival’s objective is to showcase the diverse profile of art and culture in our local society. The fifteenth annual three day event is to take place on the Observatory Village Green and surrounding roads and venues in Observatory, Cape Town. The expected audience is approximately 15 000 visitors over the three days. Festivities will begin on Friday, 9 December at 18h00.
The festival is organised by The Observatory Village of Arts NPO (Obs Arts), founded in 2010 with the objective to promote and develop arts and culture in the area and greater Cape Town. Any profits made by the company are re-invested in projects to further develop art as a means for social change. Observatory has a high ratio of resident artists and a community working actively to improve safety, security and sociability.
Festival Project Manager Andrew Fife revealed this year’s festival content. The content includes street performers with acts from the South African National Circus School, visual arts, spoken word and music. The visual arts component will include open days at art studios in the area, shop window galleries and an interactive graffiti mural.
Mark Bekker, the festival’s music director revealed the highly anticipated music line-up. The line-up includes aKING, Hot Water, Tidal Waves, Gazelle and other well-known Cape Town bands. Members from some of the bands due to perform at Obs Arts Festival were on hand to show their support.
