Feb 2010
The OBSID's promise to make Obs 'Cleaner' and 'Smarter' is bearing some fruit.
The public toilets at the cnr of Station and Arnold streets has long been an eyesore. Cleared of the tags/graffiti and attendant smears and scent markings it looks brand new.

Search is on for cleaning contractor
Obslife, Nov 2009
THE search is on to find contractors to take on the two major priorities of the Observatory Improvement District (Obsid): security and cleaning.
The biggest chunks of the Obsid's annual budget of R2,5 million are allocated to the two functions.
Brian Amery, newly appointed chief operating officer of the Obsid, said it is possible that both functions will be given to a single contractor.
Such an arrangement, which has worked in other improvement districts, has the advantage that street cleaners act as extra eyes and ears for security guards patrolling the area.
Welcome Essential Services - the Obsid street cleaning service
27 Nov 2009
Essential Services have started the street cleaning service yesterday. We all know Obs is in a mess so it will take a bit of time before we get it all tidy again and it will take a bit of time before we settle into the correct routine. We do expect to use some of the extra money you have all been billed for to have an initial "spring clean" type burst.
Bazil Viljoen has been employed by Obsid as a general worker. He has been concentrating on keeping the CBD clean and we feel that it is looking better. We are making a start on cleaning up the tagging and the old posters glued to lamp-posts and so forth.
